Digital Dolls

Out there in cyberland there are hundreds, no thousands of people that spend their time dressing and creating clothes for dolls. It’s only recently that I’ve started to think, is this some kind of perversion, a repressed childhood? But take a look around you in the media world and all you will see them in movies, games and advertising. I started with Poser 3 many years ago thanks to my brother who got it free in a PC magazine. Now I use Daz Studio, (basic version free, unlike Poser, but the Advanced version costs a little).

The first figure I started off with was Victoria 3, then Aiko 3 preferring the more animé style. Then came Victoria 4 combined with Aiko 4, but it didn’t feel right. The problem being realism, the more realistic a figure got the more realistic the result needing to be achieved, lighting, shadows, hair and the many skin and clothing details, whilst great for one off pieces of work, but for something a little simpler… Then came along NearMe, a great figure let down by poor joint detail but I had started a little project with her/it. Skye came along rather recently and a fig you could say fell in love with, but the down side so far is the lack usable clothing and a good male counterpart. Finally there’s Cookie who I’ve slowly warmed to and been working with quite a bit now, she replaced Nearme as you will see.
